How to SpeaQ With Me – Text Chat

We are happy to present you with a few more tips on how to use SpeaQ With Me, the language learning platform.

In an earlier blog post, we talked about how the user profile works and took a glimpse at the people page where you can find native speakers to chat with. So today we are going to talk a little bit more about how text communication works with other users on the platform.

The first communication you will probably have with another user is the text chat. We wanted to make this chat as convenient as possible for you, which is why we have a handy chat interface next to the profile of every person you meet. That way when you find a person's profile interesting you can immediately start writing them. We hope this tool makes it easier to overcome hesitation and be the first to send a message. And of course once you have established contact with a few text messages, you can also switch to a video conversation by clicking the camera button in the top right corner of the interface.

If you receive a text message from someone when you aren't actively in a chat, you will get a notification in the top right corner of the platform, just like on some of your favorite social media sites ;). Clicking this notification will open a drop down with your most recent messages, and clicking on a message, will bring you directly to the "messages page".

The messages page is an another way to text chat with people on the platform, and also the place where you can see all of your previous conversations organized chronologically.
What makes the text chat in SpeaQ With Me a particularly helpful resource for learning a language are two key features: Text Correction and Topic Suggestions.

The text correction tool allows your chat partner to correct any spelling or grammar errors you may have made and then shows you the corrections.
The topic suggestions tool helps you have an interesting conversation by providing interesting, funny or thought provoking questions for you and your partner to discuss and answer.
And finally when you are chatting on the messages page, you also have a translator tool that can help you find a missing word when nothing else works. But we recommend, that you just ask your chat partner and try to figure it out together. This will not only increase your understanding of the language, but also form a bond between you both, as you share this (probably funny) memory.
If you want to see it for yourself, go to www.speaqwith.me and sign up to get access to the beta test. We will just check your mail and send you a beta invitation code as fast as we can.

Stay tuned for more updates!
